The data released in the 2024 SIAE Report offers encouraging signs about the state of cinema. Compared to 2023, screenings reached 2,743,414, marking a 6.4% increase. Total spending rose by 0.6%, reaching €539.5 million, while the average spending per viewer stood at €7.34 — a 1.4% increase over the previous year.
Audience numbers remained stable (-0.8%), with 73,476,500 cinema admissions recorded.
The Cinema Revolution and Cinema in Festa initiatives had a particularly positive impact, especially in terms of attracting younger audiences. In 2024, over 52% of attendees at these special events were under the age of 24.
In terms of content, American films — particularly animations or those based on comic books — dominated the box office. Top-ranking titles included Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Despicable Me 4, and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Among the most successful Italian films were Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, Un mondo a parte, Parthenope, and Io e te dobbiamo parlare.
The positive trend of 2024 was confirmed by the early months of 2025. During the Rome presentation of the SIAE Report, it was revealed that cinema attendance saw a significant rise between January and May, with an 8.8% increase in audience numbers—reaching 30.9 million admissions—and a 10.6% rise in box office revenue, totaling €228.4 million.
