Shoot the Book!

Shoot the Book! lands at MIA 2024. The initiative, dedicated to audiovisual adaptations and created by the Société civile des éditeurs de langue française (SCELF), has been bridging the gap between the written word and the screen for over a decade by connecting publishers with international producers seeking projects for film, television, and digital platforms.

The event takes place in prestigious professional venues, such as Cannes Marché du Film, Séries Mania, the TCCF in Taiwan, and Mumbai. This year, for the first time, it will also be featured at MIA, Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, thanks to the support of Institut Français Italia and the French cultural network abroad.

Among the books selected for this edition are powerful, emotionally resonant stories such as MY SEX REVOLUTION by Céline Tran and Grazia la Padula (Glenat), which follows a Parisian journalist who begins to question herself after discovering her husband’s infidelity; OBSOLETE by Sophie Loubière (Editis), a novel set in a future with limited resources in which every fifty-year-old woman is replaced by a younger, more fertile one; and ABOUT MY SON/VOUS PARLER DE MON FILS by Philippe Besson (Robert Laffont, Julliard, Sous-Sol), in which a father recalls the events that led to the suicide of his son, a victim of school bullying, during his funeral march. The selection also includes VIVRE VITE/LIVE FAST by Brigitte Giraud (Editions Flammarion), which tells the story of a woman investigating the sudden death of her husband; THE BOX by Emma Seguès (Auzou), a psychological thriller in which five young women, kidnapped and trapped in an apartment, forge an unbreakable bond of sisterhood; MOTOROSSA by Adèle Albrespy and Jean Aubertin (Dargaud – Mediatoon Audiovisual Rights), a coming-of-age story about eighteen-year-old Franca, who moves to Sardinia after the death of her mother in order to work through her grief; and THE MAKING OF THE NEWS, A NEVER-ENDING REPORTING CYCLE by P. Millet-Bellando, illustrated by M. Le Rouge (Steinkis Group), which follows the experiences of a young reporter thrust into a work environment characterized by unsustainable rhythms that challenge his expectations. Additionally, there are STRIPPERS ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF LEGAL ADVICE by Iain Levison (Liana Levi), which tells the story of a disgraced lawyer who begins working as a legal consultant for a strip club run by a criminal; VIVIANE ELISABETH FAUVILLE by Julia Deck (Madrigall/ Éditions De Minuit), the portrait of a woman who, abandoned by her husband and left to care for a newborn on her own, becomes consumed by rage and kills her psychoanalyst; and MY WISHLIST, SEASON 2 – LA LISTE DE MES ENVIES by Grégoire Delacourt (Albin Michel) which follows the story of Jocelyne, the protagonist of the original bestseller, who, after winning the lottery and being betrayed by her husband, decides to use her millions to fulfill the dreams of others.
