Two major initiatives have been unveiled for the 40th anniversary of the Premio Solinas: the donation of Franco Solinas’ private archive—containing the celebrated author’s original and unpublished screenplays—to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, and the creation of a commemorative volume celebrating four decades of the Prize.
The announcements were made on 3 December in Rome, during the opening of the retrospective Colpire al cuore. La forza delle storie e degli esordi, organised by the Premio Solinas and the CSC and open to the public until 14 December.
CSC President Gabriella Buontempo expressed gratitude to the Solinas family for the donation, highlighting the educational value of the National Film Archive and the Library: “It is through memory that we build the future.”
Francesco Solinas explained that the archive will be made available to students and researchers at the CSC.
The retrospective features a selection of films developed thanks to the Premio Solinas and a series of meetings with writers and directors. The opening event welcomed Claudio Cupellini, Filippo Gravino, and Guido Iuculano, alongside a screening of Una vita tranquilla, introduced by CSC Dean Gloria Malatesta.
Among the upcoming guests are Edoardo De Angelis, Valerio Mieli, Isabella Aguilar, Luca Vendruscolo, Enzo Monteleone, Alessandro Fabbri, Paolo Strippoli, Guido Lombardi, culminating with Marco Ponti.
The celebrations will conclude on 16 December with the Franco Solinas International Award for Best Screenplay, attended by Paolo Sorrentino, who will receive the Special Franco Solinas Anniversary Prize.
