New €1 Million Annual scheme confirmed to support co-productions between Italy and Latin American countries.
The initiative was announced by Cinecittà’s Internationalisation Department on 30 August, at the Italian Pavilion during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.
A project designed to further position Italy at the heart of the global audiovisual landscape.
The scheme includes a dual funding structure: €800,000 allocated to co-productions and €200,000 dedicated to project development. Development support may reach up to €50,000 per project, while co-productions can receive up to €200,000, with the possibility of doubling the amount to €400,000 for projects of particular economic and cultural significance.
The programme, shaped by the experience gained through Italy’s participation in the Ibermedia initiative — from which the country has recently withdrawn — features clearer rules and shorter timelines. It is designed to be more flexible and accessible to producers.
The only requirements are the signing of a co-production agreement and the submission of a letter of support from the film authority of the partner country — both considered essential to ensure transparency and official recognition of the project.
Applications will be reviewed by a commission composed of one representative from the Directorate General for Cinema, one from Cinecittà, and two internationalisation experts with no conflicts of interest.
The project, promoted by the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC) and managed by Cinecittà’s Internationalisation Department, will soon be extended to include Spain and Portugal.
