The Lombardy Region, in collaboration with the Lombardia Film Commission, has launched a new €300,000 call dedicated to the early development stages of audiovisual works. The initiative is designed to support films, TV series, animations, and documentaries that are either set in Lombardy or inspired by its cultural, historical, and natural heritage.

The call, open until September 30, 2025, focuses on the crucial writing and pre-production phases. Grants of up to €30,000 are available for films, series, and animated projects, while documentaries can receive up to €15,000. Funding may cover up to 50% of eligible costs, ensuring that authors and producers have the resources to transform creative concepts into viable projects.

According to Regional Culture Councillor Francesca Caruso, this is the first structured measure aimed specifically at supporting the creative process of writing, which she described as the heart of the process that strengthens a strategic sector with over 1,700 companies and 16,000 professionals in Lombardy.

This €300,000 measure is part of the broader Lombardia per il Cinema 2025 programme, which has a total budget of €3 million. The wider initiative is divided into two lines of support: Line A (€2.4 million) for films and TV series, and Line B (€600,000) for documentaries. Together, these efforts demonstrate Lombardy’s commitment to fostering a competitive and internationally visible audiovisual industry.

Beyond the financial aspect, the initiative sends a clear signal to emerging generations of writers, directors, and producers, encouraging them to tell new stories that highlight the region’s identity through contemporary languages and creative approaches. The scheme is therefore not only a tool for economic support, but also an invitation to enhance Lombardy’s cultural heritage on both national and international stages.
