“The intergovernmental summit held today in Rome gave a strong boost to cultural cooperation between Italy and Algeria. From archaeology to cinema, we are working to develop a partnership model based on mutual respect and shared benefit, in the spirit of the Mattei Plan for Africa.”

This was the statement by Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli during the Italy-Algeria Summit, where he and his Algerian counterpart Zouhir Ballalou signed a new film co-production agreement between the two countries.

The treaty aims to strengthen ties between the national film industries by encouraging joint projects that will benefit from the same advantages granted to domestic productions. It also includes training programs for film and audiovisual professions, and initiatives for restoring and digitizing classic films — renewing a long-standing bond between the two nations, born around Gillo Pontecorvo’s masterpiece The Battle of Algiers.
