Chloé Zhao expands her creative vision with Kodansha Studios, a new venture born from a partnership with the historic Japanese publisher Kodansha.
The project aims to bring some of the most beloved manga — including Akira and Attack on Titan — to life through high-end live-action adaptations.
The Oscar-winning director will serve as Chief Creative Officer, while Nicolas Gonda takes on the role of President and Chief Operations Officer. Together, they plan to build a direct bridge between Japanese authors and international filmmakers, blending storytelling traditions from East and West.
Founded in 1909, Kodansha publishes more than 4,000 titles across 40 countries. With Kodansha Studios, the company is expanding into the global film and TV industry, reinforcing its mission to share Japanese creativity with the world.
