The Official Release Party of a Showgirl is the title marking Taylor Swift’s return to the big screen.
From October 3 to 5, cinemas worldwide will screen the American pop star’s feature film to celebrate the release of her new album The Life of a Showgirl.
Eighty-nine minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, new lyric videos, and unpublished reflections from the singer, together with the exclusive world premiere of the music video The Fate of Ophelia.
Just hours before the first screening, the numbers are rising as quickly as the anticipation: in the United States alone, presales have already projected revenues of $40 million.
Several Hollywood majors have postponed the release of their most important films to the following weeks, aware of the effects of the “Swift phenomenon” at the box office. In October 2023, her cinematic debut Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour broke records. At the Italian weekend box office, it ranked first with €746,530 in just three days, averaging €4,400 per screen with “only” 170 copies in circulation, eventually reaching a total of €1,100,000. Worldwide, earnings amounted to $261,260,000, of which $180,760,000 came from the United States alone, where it opened as the highest U.S. gross ever for a concert film, with no less than $97 million.
The film was later released exclusively worldwide on Disney+ in an extended version, renamed Taylor’s Version, running over three and a half hours and enriched with songs absent from the theatrical release. The operation not only transformed the event into an “evergreen” product but also consolidated the alliance between the pop star and the Disney platform, already inaugurated with Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions.
The essence of the singer’s new cinematic event is not limited to a spectacular celebration of her twelfth studio album, but also represents tangible proof of the pop star’s commercial and cultural power on the big screen.
