From October 28 to 31, Rome hosts the FIAT/IFTA World Conference, the leading international event dedicated to the preservation and promotion of audiovisual heritage. The event, organized by Cinecittà – home to the historic Archive Luce – brings together over 300 institutions, including archives, broadcasters, and cultural organizations from more than 65 countries.

This year’s edition focuses on the theme Everything is possible, and nothing is true? which invites reflection on the role of audiovisual archives in an era shaped by artificial intelligence and the crisis of image authenticity.

The program features meetings, panels, workshops, and award ceremonies held across the Cinecittà spaces, including Teatro 19, Sala Fellini, and Sala Cavalli. Key topics include the centenary of the Archive Luce, the impact of generative AI on audiovisual archives, digital preservation in the post-physical era, and new techniques for automated restoration.

Founded in 1977, FIAT/IFTA (International Federation of Television Archives) promotes international cooperation and the development of professional standards for the preservation and reuse of audiovisual materials. Today, it connects more than 300 members worldwide, serving as a reference network for safeguarding global television and multimedia heritage.

FIAT/IFTA President Virginia Bazan Gil expressed her satisfaction with the choice of Rome and Cinecittà, seeing it as an opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Archive Luce and reaffirm the value of audiovisual memory.
Antonio Saccone, President of Cinecittà, also emphasized that the event represents international recognition for the Archive Luce and an important moment of dialogue on the future of memory archives.
