The official line-ups of the Venice and Toronto film festivals bring exciting recognition for MIA Market: two projects that participated in our industry programs have been selected in major international competition sections.

Father by Slovak director Tereza Nvotová has been selected for the Horizons section at the Venice International Film Festival. The film was first presented at C EU Soon 2023 as a work-in-progress, where it won the prestigious Screen International Award. Inspired by a true story, Father follows a man whose life is shattered by a tragic mistake, leading to a profound emotional journey through guilt and forgiveness. The film, a Slovak-Czech-Polish co-production, has been acquired for international sales by Intramovies.

Forastera by Lucía Aleñar Iglesias will have its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival. A co-production between Spain, Italy, and Sweden, the project was presented at the MIA Film Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum in 2022. Set in a sun-drenched summer in Mallorca, the film explores grief, memory, and identity through a young girl who begins to embody the presence of her late grandmother.
