Disney announced that it will end its streaming deal with Netflix from 2019. The entertainment giant aims at directly offering subscribers its products through two new “channels” available on the internet as from next year. The division confirms the atmosphere of such competition around the streaming video business, a formula which for years is creating problems for the cable TV, especially the pay TV, and the traditional TV networks. Netflix could be considered a soloist in the framework of online broadcasting, but now it will have to compete with a dangerous rival such as Walt Disney Company, which will launch its new online services by proposing various content, from sporting events to movies and TV series. As from next year, the Mickey Mouse creator will offer a streaming service dedicated to ESPN, its sports network, by proposing 10 thousand live events per year which will be available for subscribers also according to their favourite sport. Netflix US subscribers will access Disney movies available in the catalogue until the end of 2019, including all the new movies released in theatres within the end of 2018.
