The 2025 edition of Giornate del Cinema per la Scuola was inaugurated in Palermo — an initiative by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit, aimed at educating young people about visual language by providing them with the tools to understand both the power and the potential risks of visual communication.
Launched in 2018, the program has always been considered essential, but it is now more relevant than ever. As Undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni highlights, we live in an era where communication is predominantly driven by images.
Following the impressive results achieved over the first four editions — €104 million invested, 2,000 educational projects funded, over 1.7 million students and 115,000 teachers involved — the Undersecretary expressed hope for even greater outcomes. She also pointed out that teacher enrollment in the initiative has tripled over the years. Participation by film distribution companies has also grown, as noted by ANEC President Mario Lorini, further enriching the program with an increasing number of projects.
In the Sicilian capital, school principals, teachers, and industry professionals gathered to explore the proposals from distribution companies and the educational projects offered by the film industry and public institutions. The first films premiered during the event were La vita va così by Riccardo Milani, distributed by Medusa Film, and 40 secondi by Vincenzo Alfieri, distributed by Eagle Pictures.
Also speaking at the event was Giuseppe Pierro, Director General for Communication and Institutional Relations at the Ministry of Education and Merit. He emphasized that this project not only helps shape new audiences but also equips them with the tools to interpret reality. The cinema, he noted, is a place of learning — and today, as ANEC’s President underlined, also a place for social connection.
