Apple Original Films has acquired the movie rights to Last Flight Out, the comic book series created by Marc Guggenheim, best known for building the Arrowverse television universe. The project, based on the Dark Horse Comics graphic novel illustrated by Eduardo Ferigato, follows the dramatic journey of a father and daughter struggling to reconnect as the world faces its end.

According to Deadline, Sam Hargrave – the filmmaker behind Netflix’s action-packed Extraction saga- is in talks to direct the adaptation, with Guggenheim himself penning the screenplay. The deal, reportedly worth a substantial sum, brings together Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment, which considers the project one of its top priorities in development.

Hargrave’s recent experience directing two of the first four episodes of Apple’s series The Last Frontier makes him a natural fit to bring the intensity and action of Last Flight Out to the big screen. The film will also reunite the director with Apple following their previous collaboration on Matchbox, starring John Cena.

Meanwhile, Guggenheim continues a strong streak in Hollywood: over the past six months he has sold three television pilots and written Netflix’s upcoming film An Innocent Girl, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

Chernin Entertainment remains one of the industry’s most active companies, having recently signed a first-look deal with Apple and produced several major titles for the streamer, including Chief of War and See, both starring Jason MomoaLast Flight Out now joins the growing slate of high-profile collaborations between the two studios.
