The newly established Skydance Corporation has begun taking its first steps to strengthen its market presence and consolidate its strategic positioning. The two-year agreement with Spanish streaming platform Movistar Plus, part of the Telefónica group, represents an important milestone in this process.

As highlighted by Alessandro Araimo, Managing Director and EVP for Southern Europe at Skydance, the agreement with Movistar Plus represents an opportunity to strengthen the group’s competitive position in the Spanish market by expanding the distribution of its content.

One of the key elements of the agreement is the confirmation of HBO Max within Movistar Plus’ offering. The Spanish platform, which has approximately four million subscribers, will allow users to access HBO Max through its dedicated application, which will be integrated into its own offering and that of O2.

Another significant aspect concerns the development of joint productions under the HBO Max and Movistar Plus brands. This represents a major opportunity for the Spanish market, with the aim of promoting national productions and increasing their international visibility.

Among the first projects announced is Veredicto, a Movistar Plus series and HBO Original produced in collaboration with Ikiru Films and Luminol Media. Conceived by Eduard Sola, Pol Cortecans and Daniel González, based on an original idea by Carles Porta, it will star Nagore Aranburu, Ernesto Alterio and Alba Flores.

The project will be joined by a second original series, which has yet to be titled, developed by Movistar Plus and HBO and created by Carles Porta alongside Los Moriarti, the collective known for films such as Maspalomas, Marco and La fossa infinita. The cast includes Anna Castillo, Pol López and Eduard Fernández.

In addition, the partnership includes two other elements:

  1. The relaunch of a selection of television channels available on Movistar Plus, including Warner TV, TCM, Discovery, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, as well as Cartoon Network’s on-demand content.
  2. Confirmation of the availability on Movistar Plus of major Warner film productions and HBO television series. The catalogue includes titles such as The Pitt, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon and The White Lotus, as well as DC films and successful franchises such as Harry Potter, Friends and The Big Bang Theory.
