Twenty-one Italian films are competing to be selected as Italy’s representative for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards® in 2027. Anica’s Selection Committee has set Wednesday, September 23rd, to meet and choose the film that will continue on in the race for the Oscars®. It should be noted that eligibility is limited to Italian films released in theatres — in Italy or in a country other than the United States and its territories — with a release date, actual or scheduled, falling between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
Other key dates on the road to the Oscars® include December 15th, when the Academy will announce the shortlist; January 21, 2027, when the nominations will be made public; and March 14, 2027, the date set for the awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
Among the contenders are Succederà questa notte, directed by Nanni Moretti; L’Estranea by Paolo Strippoli; Le cose non dette by Gabriele Muccino; La vita va così by Riccardo Milani; and Anna by Monica Guerritore.
