MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo will return to Rome from October 19 to 23, 2026, with its twelfth edition, further strengthening its international positioning and role as a strategic platform for the global audiovisual industry. The new features of the upcoming edition were unveiled on May 17 at the Italian Pavilion in Cannes by APA and ANICA – chaired respectively by Chiara Sbarigia and Alessandro Usai – together with MIA Artistic Director Gaia Tridente.
Moreover the 2026 edition marks a significant evolution for MIA, which is expanding its editorial structure and redefining its format with the aim of supporting the audiovisual value chain in a more integrated way, from project development and production to distribution and international circulation.
Among the main new initiatives announced is the Animation Series Gap Financing Market, a new program entirely dedicated to animated series. The initiative is designed to support projects already backed by broadcasters and partially financed, connecting producers with co-financiers and international partners interested in completing the financial structure and launching production. The new format further strengthens MIA’s role as a key hub for European and international animation.
Another major addition is the European Investment Hub (EIH), a platform dedicated to European and international financial tools for the audiovisual sector. The program will focus on co-production funds, equity instruments, public-private co-investment models, completion bonds and new financing opportunities for the cultural and creative industries, with the goal of facilitating access to strategic resources for the growth and sustainability of audiovisual companies.
Alongside the new industry initiatives, MIA will also introduce “CASA MIA”, a new experiential lounge and networking space designed for accredited participants. Conceived as a “living room for the audiovisual industry,” the area aims to encourage professional meetings, international relationships and business opportunities in an informal environment integrated with the market’s main activities.
Meanwhile, Co-Production Market & Pitching Forum has also been redesigned, offering expanded networking opportunities for producers, distributors, buyers and international financiers through dedicated forums for feature films, animation, documentaries, docuseries and scripted series. Content showcases such as C EU SOON, GREENlit, ITALIAN SERIES ANIMATION SHOWCASE and ITALIANS DOC IT BETTER have also been confirmed, continuing to promote works in development and in progress to international audiences.
Finally, the 2026 edition will further strengthen MIA’s connection with the city of Rome by involving new venues across the city center and consolidating collaborations with Fondazione Cinema per Roma and Alice nella Città. Twelfth edition of MIA will once again take place alongside the Rome Film Fest, reinforcing the Italian capital’s role as an international audiovisual hub.
The market is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture, Regione Lazio, Fondazione Roma Lazio Film Commission, ICE and Creative Europe MEDIA.
