The nominations for the 2025 European Film Awards—the most prestigious honors in European cinema—have been revealed. Leading the list is Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value with five nominations, followed by Jafar Panahi’s A Simple Accident and Oliver Laxe’s Sirat, both with four.
Italy is in the spotlight with Paolo Sorrentino’s La grazia, earning nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Toni Servillo. Among the Best Actress nominees is Valeria Bruni Tedeschi for Pietro Marcello’s Duse. Italian talent is also present in the Young Audience Award, with Greta Scarano nominated for her directorial debut La vita da grandi.
Italian co-productions also make the list:
– La ragazza del coro by Urška Djukic competes for European Discovery;
– Fiume o morte! by Igor Bezinović is nominated for Best Documentary and, thanks to new rules, also enters the Best Film category.
The nominations span all major categories: best film, director, actors, screenplay, documentary, animation, and emerging talent.
The 2025 EFAs will celebrate a standout year of auteur cinema, international productions, and a strong Italian presence both on and off screen.
