The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit, has allocated nearly 10 million euros to fund 138 projects as part of the National Plan for Cinema and Images for Schools.

The initiative aims to strengthen audiovisual education within Italy’s school system, involving more than 370,000 students, 13,000 teachers, and around 3,200 school buildings.

Its goal is to integrate film language and visual media into educational programs, encouraging students to develop a more critical, informed, and creative understanding of images.

More than 300 applications were submitted, resulting in a nationwide network that connects schools, cultural organizations, and film industry professionals, with the active participation of over 560 cinemas.

Most of the selected projects are based in Lazio, Emilia-Romagna, Campania, and Puglia, and include a wide range of activities — from studying audiovisual language to producing short films, as well as workshops on inclusion, legality, environmental awareness, and responsible digital media use.

Special attention will be given to rural and peripheral areas, ensuring equal access to film culture across the country.

Ultimately, the plan seeks to cultivate a new generation of citizens capable of interpreting, understanding, and using visual language as a tool for expression, communication, and active participation in contemporary society.
