Netflix is experimenting with generative artificial intelligence for the first time, and it’s doing so with the series El Eternauta, based on the famous Argentine comic by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López. The news was confirmed by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who stated in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian that AI—used to produce the visual effects of a building collapse—delivered impressive results in a short amount of time and at significantly lower costs.

In response to concerns raised by the rise of AI among industry professionals—a hotly debated topic and central to the protests by directors and screenwriters in Hollywood in 2023—Sarandos emphasized that these technologies provide workers with better tools that are always used under human supervision.
