The 78^ edition of Locarno Film Festival, has been presented yesterday. The festival Italian-Ticinese, directed by Giona Nazzaro, will be held from August 6th to 16th. A rich selection that includes 99 world premiers, together with titles in the non-competitive sections.
Le Pays d’Arto by Tamara Stepanyan will start the dance. The film focuses on the little-told conflict in Armenia.
Italy will be represented by the western Testa o Croce, presented in Cannes. Released in Cinemas in Autumn, the film will be projected in Piazza Grande, symbol place of the Locarno Film Festival. The film is played by Alessandro Borghi and Nadia Tereszkievicz, directed by Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis.
Among the foreign titles Un simple accident, Palma d’oro for Jafar Panahi, the moving Sentimental value by Joachim Trier and the suggestive La petite dernère by Hafsia Herzi, «discovered» right at Locarno.
In the heterogeneous selection of Fuori Concorso, Giulio Base will present the world premier Il vangelo di Giuda.
Competing in Concorso Internazionale, 17 film, including Dracula of the acclaimed Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude, the story of the formation Le bambine di Valentina and Nicole Bertani and the comedy Sorella di clausura by Ivana Mladenović.
In the Concorso Cineasti del Presente, the Italian Margherita Spampinato will present her Gioia mia.
Many also the celebrities expected. Among them the director and screenwriter Alexander Payne (Nebraska and The holdovers) who will receive the Pardo d’onore, costumer Oscar award Milena Canonero, who will receive the Vision Award; Emma Thompson (Casa Howard and Harry Potter) will get the Leopard Club Award whereas Lucy Liu (Kill Bill vol. 1) will achieve a lifetime achievement award.
