Two projects from the Doc Co-production Market & Pitching Forum at MIA Mercato Internazionale dell’Audiovisivo will have their world premiere at the prestigious CPH:DOX 2025, one of the leading festivals dedicated to documentary cinema. These projects are “Ai Weiwei’s Turandot” and “Lost for Words”, presented at MIA in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
“Ai Weiwei’s Turandot” follows renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei in his first experience as an opera director with a reinterpretation of Puccini’s “Turandot,” staged at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. Maxim Derevianko’s film documents the artist’s creative process, showing how classical art can still provoke, challenge, and reflect on contemporary global crises.
“Lost for Words,” directed by Hannah Papacek Harper, explores the relationship between language, nature, and today’s environmental challenges. Inspired by the bestselling book by Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris, the documentary highlights how words connected to the natural world are disappearing from our collective vocabulary, inviting us to rediscover our connection with nature.
