Published the new report of the European Audiovisual Observatory, “Audiovisual fiction production in Europe – 2020 figures”.

The report seeks to picture the volume, formats, origin, commissioners and producers of European original films and TV series released on TV and SVOD between 2015 and 2020.

According to the report, more than 1,000 titles, 20,000 episodes and 13,000 hours are produced each year in Europe. Daily soap operas represent 9% of the seasons produced. In parallel, the growth of shorter formats does not stop, albeit at a slower pace. The figures also suggest a downward trend for TV films, perhaps hinting at a replacement of TV film production by TV series.

In addition, the report reveals that Germany, the UK and France produce the most seasons. Germany is the leading drama producing country in Europe in terms of the number of TV seasons and TV films produced. In contrast, the UK is the leading producer of seasons from 2 to 13 episodes.
