Animation Series’ Gap Financing Market

MIA 2026 introduces a new tool exclusively dedicated to animated series, conceived as a new industry format aimed at projects already supported by broadcasters and partially financed. In this context, producers together with broadcasters will present animated series projects seeking international co-producers, co-financiers, and co-commissioners, to complete their financial structure and launch production. Through the introduction of the Animation Series’ Gap Financing Market, MIA proposes an innovative model and a paradigm shift compared with other markets and traditional pitching forums.

Specific guidelines for the Animation Series’ Gap Financing Market are published on the MIA website

Co-Production Market – F.A.Q.

Who Can Apply?+
Only lead producers with a production company are eligible to submit a project to the MIA Co-Production & Gap Financing Market 2026.
If I have an animation project, where I have to apply for?+
If you have an animated feature-length project (scripted and documentary), of the minimum length of 70 mins. you should apply to the Film Co-Production Market; if you have an animation series project you should submit it to the Animation Series Gap Financing Market.
How many projects can I submit?+
You may submit multiple projects, provided each meets the eligibility criteria. However, if more than one project from the same production company (including co-productions) is selected in the same category, MIA and the Selection Committee reserve the right to select only one, in order to encourage the participation of a broader range of companies.
How much does submitting a project cost?+
Submitting a project is free of charge.
What language should be used in the form?+
All written materials must be submitted in English only.
Do you accept projects from anywhere in the world?+
Yes. The Selection Committee will select up to 60 projects from all over the world.
Can I submit a project already selected at another Festival/Market?+
Projects must not have been publicly pitched at any other industry events, markets, or festivals prior to MIA 2026. Exceptions may be discussed with the Head of the Co-Production Market for each category.
What should the Budget Top Sheet and Financial Plan look like? How detailed should they be?+
We expect a clear and realistic Budget Top Sheet with key cost categories and a Financial Plan outlining funding sources. They don't need to be final but should credibly reflect your project's financial structure and viability.
What do you mean by a "moodreel"? Can you provide examples?+
A moodreel is a short video (1–3 minutes) that conveys the tone, atmosphere, and style of your project. It can include original footage, references, or montages. There’s no fixed format, but it should visually represent your project's world and storytelling approach. Please note that the moodreel is not mandatory at the project submission stage, but it will be mandatory if the project is selected to pitch at MIA.
Are there any Awards for the best projects?+
Yes, the MIA Development Awards. For each award category, MIA will appoint a jury of experts who will select the winning project. Each winning project will receive a cash prize.
When will selected projects be notified?+
