The essential role of the Netherlands Film Fund in the development of the Dutch cinema industry.

The investment made by Netherlands Film Fund generated €288.4 million in production spend in the Dutch cinema industry. The Film Production Incentive established by the Netherlands Film Fund to support films and TV series in the form of cash rebates on production costs (up to 35%) that are subject to Dutch taxation, has proven to be highly profitable, according to the latest report published by the organization for the period of July 2014-December 2017: every euro granted generated €4.60 in overall Dutch expenditure. International co-productions were the most benefited from this incentive, with 63% (161 in total) of Dutch audiovisual production.

In overall, the total amount spent on international film co-production increased from €38.8 million in 2014 to €44.6 million in 2017. Within the film sector, 245 film projects received €55.7 million, out of which €261.9 million was spent in the Netherlands on film productions. 93 projects of the 245 were fully Dutch-funded films (38%), and 152 were international co-productions (62%). Among the supported productions, there was John Crowley’s The Goldfinch and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

The Film Production Incentive aims to stimulate the national cinema industry and increase its employment potential by attracting foreign and local investment to develop talent and innovate.
