Lauren Stein was named Head of Creative for Sony Pictures Television Studios in 2023. In this position, she oversees drama and comedy development, international co-productions and series in their first year of production across streaming, cable, and broadcast platforms.
In her nine years at Sony Pictures Television’s US scripted studio, Stein has been influential in helping the studio build its drama development pipeline and grow and diversify its talent pool, bringing in numerous talent deals, as well as expanding the team with several accomplished executives.
Stein joined SPT as Senior Vice President of Drama Development in 2015 and was promoted to Executive Vice President of Drama Development in 2017. In this role, she has a key role in the development and production of hits including The Boys, The Good Doctor, The Night Agent, Goosebumps and The Wheel of Time. In the past year alone, several of SPT’s dramas have become worldwide hits, including The Night Agent, which ranks sixth on Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 list and reached the #1 spot in 87 countries, and Goosebumps, which became Disney Branded Television’s most-watched season premiere of the year. Stein developed Dark Matter, which premiered on Apple TV+ in May, and she is now working on the next project from Vince Gilligan at Apple, as well as the upcoming SPIDER-Noir series at MGM+ and Prime Video, among many others.
Stein joined SPT from Chernin Entertainment where she was Senior Vice President of Drama Development. As one of the first employees at Peter Chernin’s new venture, Stein supported series such as Touch (written by Tim Kring and starring Kiefer Sutherland) on FOX, Terra Nova (co-produced with Steven Spielberg) on FOX, and Breakout Kings (from Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora) on A&E. Additionally, Stein developed and produced pilots for NBC, CBS, Showtime, FX, SYFY, and Lifetime.
Prior to Chernin, Stein served as Vice President, Drama Programming at Universal Media Studios. She began her television career at NBC, where she held several roles. While at the NBC Network, Stein headed up the Diversity Writer Program, where she worked with diversity coalitions and showrunners to add minority writers to their staff.
She is a board member of the Hollywood Radio and Television Society (HRTS). A native of Rockville, Maryland, Stein received a BA from the University of Delaware. She resides in Los Angeles.
