Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced a new multi-year global licensing agreement that expands their partnership worldwide. Under the deal, Netflix will secure exclusive Pay-1 streaming rights to Sony films across all international markets, becoming the primary streaming destination for Sony titles after their theatrical and home-video release windows.

The agreement, revealed in January 2026, builds on the previous 2021 contract, which covered mainly the United States and a limited number of territories. The rollout will begin in late 2026, as existing local rights agreements expire, with full global coverage expected by early 2029.

The deal includes highly anticipated titles such as the live-action The Legend of Zelda, The Nightingale, and the four Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes, along with a selection from Sony Pictures’ extensive film library. The partnership is estimated to be worth over $7 billion and confirms Sony’s strategy of remaining a “neutral” studio, distributing its films through leading platforms rather than launching its own global streaming service.
