The Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual (DGCA) of the Italian Ministry of Culture has published the 2025 Call for Selective Funding for Cinematic Works Produced as Minority International Co-productions or International Co-participations.
The call has a total budget of €6 million and supports the production of feature-length films, including research and training projects, produced as international co-productions in which the Italian share is minority.
Applications may be submitted in a single application window, from 19 December 2025 to 16 January 2026, exclusively through the DGCOL online platform.
Among the key eligibility requirements, Italian production companies must hold at least 20% of the rights to the work, a threshold reduced to 10% in the case of co-productions involving companies from more than two countries. The maximum grant amount is €300,000, covering up to 60% of eligible costs, within the Italian companies’ ownership share. Funding is awarded as a non-repayable grant.
The call also requires applicants to request Italian nationality status for the film and stipulates that 80% of the awarded funding must be spent in Italy. Eligible companies must be legally established within the European Economic Area, subject to taxation in Italy, qualify as independent producers, operate under ATECO code 59.11, and be registered in the ordinary section of the Companies Register.
To be eligible, projects must demonstrate certification of at least 50% of the financial resources covering the production cost of the majority ownership share. Funding will be disbursed in two stages: an advance payment of 60%, which may be requested no earlier than 60 days after the start of shooting, followed by the final balance within the deadlines set out in the call.
Through this initiative, the DGCA reaffirms its commitment to international cooperation and to supporting Italian participation in film projects with strong European and global ambitions.
