Disney has struck a strategic content deal with Atresmedia, one of Spain’s leading media groups, to expand its streaming operations in the Iberian market. The multi-year agreement, announced in Madrid, will bring Atresmedia’s premium Spanish-language series and films to Disney+ and Hulu platforms, expanding their reach far beyond Spain.
Atresmedia, parent company of broadcaster Antena 3 and production powerhouse Atresmedia Studios, has long been a key player in Spanish TV drama, known for hits like Money Heist (La Casa de Papel, originally broadcast on Antena 3 before moving to Netflix) and Velvet. Under the new deal, its upcoming scripted series will debut exclusively on Disney’s streaming services outside Spain, while remaining available on Atresmedia channels domestically.
Starting this month, Disney+ subscribers in Spain will be able to access shows such as La Voz, Tu Cara Me Suena, Vis a Vis and Mar Afuera, with content regularly updated.
For Disney, the partnership is designed to strengthen its library with locally produced content that has proven international appeal, meanwhile Atresmedia will benefit from Disney’s distribution scale, positioning its shows alongside Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars titles on Disney+. This visibility could not only boost export revenues, but also enhance Spain’s role in globally relevant television.
This major alliance is part of Disney’s wider effort to balance U.S. content with international originals, a strategy also adopted by rivals Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and consolidates the leadership of Atresmedia and atresplayer, reaffirming the success of their innovative content strategy.
