After the experiment of El Eternauta, the Argentine series in which the use of generative AI enabled the creation of visual effects in significantly shorter production times compared to traditional methods, Netflix has officially introduced AI into its production processes—while also taking care to establish clear guidelines for its use.

This regulation, intended for directors, partners, vendors, and other industry professionals, aims to provide a clear framework of responsibilities. In particular, it outlines five key principles:

  • avoiding the unlawful reproduction of protected works and the infringement of third-party artistic styles;

  • ensuring that the tools employed do not collect, store, or reuse data related to production;

  • prioritizing internal platforms or, alternatively, contractual solutions that guarantee adequate data protection and security measures;

  • limiting the use of AI-generated material to a temporary, supportive function;

  • not replacing performances by unionized actors without explicit consent.

Special care is also given to the representation of talent—avoiding digital replicas of actors, synthetic voices, or significant alterations of performances without authorization—as well as to the ethical impact, preventing the creation of misleading or deceptive content.

Finally, the platform emphasizes areas where written approval is always required before proceeding: the processing of personal or proprietary data, the use of third-party materials, and the creation of key narrative elements (main characters, significant settings, or crucial plot events).
