After the efforts of the past few years, the audiovisual sector is recording major successes, achieving excellent results especially in terms of investment. As recounted by data from Apa, Associazione produttori audiovisivi, the sector has recorded growth the growth for 2024 of almost 10% for a total value of productions (net of film productions, which are not included within Apa data) of about one billion. Advertising is also on the rise, both for Subscription video on demand and linear TV. The latter specifically recorded a 7% increase over 2023.

Marking this growth was an increasing variety of titles, genres, and formats due to a shift from a demand-driven to a product-driven system.

TV series is the format that has experienced the greatest growth in content, producing 56 titles for a total of 556 hours. Relevant is the contribution of major international productions from Il Gattopardo to M. Il figlio del secolo or L’amica geniale.
Confirming itself a success in the Italian television and digital scene is the fifth season of Mare Fuori (produced by Picomedia in collaboration with Rai Fiction), with a Total Audience of more than 5.1 million viewers per episode, combining television ratings and online fruition. A relevant case is Il Commissario Montalbano – a Palomar production – with 37 prime time on Rai 1 and an average share above 34%. The series averaged more than 9 million viewers per episode.

Also proving to be key is the unscripted sector with production on linear networks of 824 pieces of content, registering a growth over the previous season of 6%.

Good news also on the employment front. In total, there are more than 120,000 employees. 44.8% of those employed work in large industries, but medium-sized companies (+21.5% in 2022) and collaborations between large and small producers are also strengthening.
